Featuring Keynote Speaker: Lindsay Ell

International recording artist, guitarist, and performer Lindsay Ell shares her journey from aspiring musician to global touring artist. In a candid, interview-style keynote, Lindsay opens up about life on the road, mastering stage confidence, connecting with fans, and staying true to your artistry.

This intimate session concludes with a live audience Q&A, giving attendees a rare chance to ask Lindsay their most pressing questions about career development and performing live.

Workshop 1: Efficient and Effective Soundcheck: An Introduction to In-Ear Monitors

Led by James Bundy
This workshop teaches aspiring musicians how to effectively use In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) during live performances. Covering key principles of preparation, technical knowledge, and execution, you'll learn how to create a balanced, custom monitor mix that enhances your performance. Whether you’re new to IEMs or refining your skills, this session will help you soundcheck like a pro.

About James:
Based in Calgary, James is a monitor engineer, RF technician, and production manager who’s collaborated with artists including Brett Kissel, Jess Moskaluke, Corb Lund, Tate McRae, and Hillsong United. Known for his calm, efficient style, James brings clarity to the often-overlooked side of live sound that separates amateurs from professionals.

Workshop 2: Elevate Your Live Show: Seamless Playback with Musical Soul

Led by Brendan Lyons
This dynamic session walks attendees through the evolution of live playback - from simple laptop setups to advanced redundant rigs used by major touring artists. Discover how to integrate technology into your live show without sacrificing musicality or spontaneity.

About Brendan:
An Edmonton-based drummer, playback specialist, and producer, Brendan has worked with Aaron Goodvin, Jojo Mason, Fefe Dobson, Jess Moskaluke, and more. A multiple-time CCMA Drummer of the Year nominee and Country Music Alberta Drummer of the Year, Brendan also co-runs Sessionwire, a platform enabling seamless remote collaboration for artists and producers worldwide.

Workshop 3: From Stage to Studio: An Introduction to Studio Recording

Led by Stew Kirkwood
Learn how to bring your live energy into the studio with confidence. Producer and engineer Stew Kirkwood shares practical tips on preparing for a session, communicating with your engineer, and capturing authentic performances. Ideal for artists looking to elevate their sound and make the most of their studio time. This session will be assisted by Paul Steffes.

About Stew:
Stew is an Edmonton-based recording and mixing engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who runs the studio at Dept.9 Music. With a career spanning collaboration from indie artists to Grammy and Juno winners, he’s known for his musical intuition and artist-focused approach. Stew’s productions are defined by authenticity, emotion, and a commitment to capturing performances that truly connect.
